About Whist
A quieter way to talk.
Whist is made by Buildable Labs, an independent studio — one founder and a small team shipping carefully. There’s no growth department here, no ad sales, nobody whose job is to keep you staring at a screen. Just people building a messenger they actually want to use.
It exists because messaging apps became noisy attention products. Talking to the people you care about somehow turned into feeds, ads, and notifications engineered to pull you back in. We wanted the opposite: a quiet room where a conversation is just a conversation.
So we’re building one — in the open. What’s done is labeled done, and what isn’t, like end-to-end encryption, is labeled in development. Today your conversations are encrypted at rest and verifiable. No ads, no tracking, ever. iPhone-first, and honest the whole way.
What we won’t compromise on.
“No ads. No tracking. No data brokers. Your attention isn't for sale.”
“Encrypted at rest and verified. When we can't claim more yet, we say so.”
“Every conversation has a safety number you can check in person. Trust you verify, not just believe.”
“No feeds, no streaks, no read-receipt games. A tool, not a slot machine.”
“The roadmap, the trade-offs, and what isn't done yet — all in the open.”
